چکیده

A node replication attack against a wireless sensor network involves surreptitious efforts by an adversary to insert duplicate sensor nodes into the network while avoiding detection. Due to the lack of tamper resistant hardware and the low cost of sensor nodes, launching replication attacks takes little effort to carry out. Naturally, detecting these replica nodes is a very important task and has been studied extensively. In this paper, we propose a novel distributed, randomized sensor duplicate detection algorithm called Discard to detect node replicas in group-deployed wireless sensor networks. Our protocol is an epidemic, selforganizing, duplicate detection scheme which exhibits emergent properties. Epidemic schemes have found diverse applications in distributed computing and to the best of our knowledge, our algorithm is the first attempt at exploring the potential of this paradigm to detect replicas in a wireless sensor network. Through analysis and simulation, we show that our scheme achieves robust replica detection with substantially lower communication, computational and storage requirements than prior schemes in the literature.

ENERGY AWARE DISTRIBUTED PARTITIONING DETECTION AND CONNECTIVITY RESTORATION ALGORITHM IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS

Mobile sensor networks rely heavily on inter-sensor connectivity for collection of data. Nodes in these networks monitor different regions of an area of interest and collectively present a global overview of some monitored activities or phenomena. A failure of a sensor leads to loss of connectivity and may cause partitioning of the network into disjoint segments. A number of approaches have be...

Sequential Hypothesis Testing Based Approach for Replica Cluster Detection in Wireless Sensor Networks

In wireless sensor networks, replica node attacks are very dangerous because the attacker can compromise a single node and generate as many replicas of the compromised node as he wants, and then exploit these replicas to disrupt the normal operations of sensor networks. Several schemes have been proposed to detect replica node attacks in sensor networks. Although these schemes are capable of de...

Detection of Node Replication Attacks in Mobile Sensor Networks

The advanced sensor network architectures could be used for a variety of applications including intruder detection, border monitoring, and military patrols. In potentially hostile environments, the security of unattended mobile nodes is extremely critical. Due to the unattended nature of wireless sensor networks, an adversary can capture and compromise sensor nodes, make replicas of them, and t...

Energy Efficient Finite Range Query Scheme for Detecting Mobile Adversary Replica Nodes in Wireless Sensor Networks

With the growing demand in wireless sensor network (WSN), adversary attack on sensor node becomes major issue in current WSN deployment. The replica nodes which are generated by attackers receive the valuable information from the network in turn sends to the adversaries and at the same time transmits inappropriate message to the sink in the sensor networks. One of the existing works presented S...
